Lea nodded. She could probably manage a Tuesday. “I was always mad at Tyra, because I didn’t meet the height requirement for her model show.” Lea laughed loudly as she took a another sip of her latter. “Those damn tall people. Always raining on my parade.” Lea harumphed with a laugh. “So I’ll go on Tuesday. A fresh cast is a good cast.” She knew Chris would be good. Even on an off day, her friend was a phenomenal actor. It would be a treat to go see him.

Chris laughed. “I agree, but on the basis of being male rather than short.” He shrugged and just watched Lea for a few moments. “She really was lovely, though. Both on screen and off.” He flushed at the memory; he’d gotten some recognition for being on the show, mostly as ‘that boy in that play’. Hey, whatever; he’d take it. “Awesome. If you let me know when I might be able to score you a comp ticket.” He gave a little grin and drained the rest of his drink. “We need to have a Housewives marathon, by the way. I miss watching with you. Darren doesn’t understand the appeal so he just ends up making fun of me while I watch.”

Lea nodded, smiling. “Of course. You’ll know what’s happening every step of the way.” Oh god, Bare. Lea had forgotten all about managing to go see it. “I haven’t yet! I’ve been meaning to, but I’ve been so busy!” Lea clapped her hands to her cheeks in horror. She was a terrible friend. “I saw you on television, and I meant to call you about that. Whens the best night to go see it? I can’t believe I haven’t yet!!” Lea was getting worked up, as she always did when talking shop. “I expect the best performance of your life when I do end up going!”

Chris laughed slightly at Lea’s horror. “Lea bee, I don’t blame you at all. I know how busy this world of cutthroat theatre is.” He gave a nod and took another drink, chuckling softly again at her expression. “Yeah, that was scary. Tyra was really nice, though. She was at the show, actually, opening night. She didn’t come say hi, but she sent a nice basket to Darren and I.” He leaned back in his chair. “Tuesday nights are the best, usually, because we’re fresh off a couple days off. Either that or Sunday afternoons, because we’re about to have a day off.” He laughed again. “Don’t worry, though. Whatever day you go, I’ll kill it - just for you.” He winked.

Lea sat down, finally shrugging her jacket off onto the chair behind her. “It’s about three people, all with different reasons for doing things.. The lead female does things for her heart, and then the two lead males follow their mind or their.. uhh.. little mind. And it follows them through their lives.” Lea took a sip from her latte in order to gather her thoughts. “I’m hoping to get the lead female, Wendla Bergman. It’s a very risque role, but I think I can do it. I hope I can do it.” Lea had been freaking out about song choice, and audition pieces for almost a week now, and she still had two left. It was always the worst when you thought you actually ahd a chance for a part, and it was your choice in song, or monologue that ruined the shot.

Chris listened attentively, chuckling softly when she mentioned the ‘little mind’. He almost said something off-the-cuff about thinking with his little mind but caught himself before doing so. “I’m sure you’ll get it,” he said earnestly, taking another long drink from his latte. “Keep me updated with it, okay?” He paused and glanced at her. “Have you come to see Bare yet? Is there any chance you might be able to?” Chris sat up a little straighter and couldn’t help his pride creep into his voice. “The critics are raving, Lea. The show is getting bigger than ever before.”

Lea followed Chris to the spice table, sipping her own latte as she did. “Whoever gets cast as Fiyero better be good for both of us.” Lea laughed. Making plans of stardom already. That was the good thing about Chris, he was hilarious. Guylinda. Why hadn’t she thought of that? “The NEW Wicked! Featuring Chris Colfer and Lea Michele!” Their names in lights. It would be phenomenal. “I have an audition in two weeks, did I tell you? Something called Spring Awakening. I’d be originating any role that I happen to get!” Lea was excited. She’d read up on the project, and was eager to give it her best shot.

He laughed at that and stirred his coffee around with the stirrer, licking it clean before tossing it into the trash. He capped his drink and sipped his latte, humming softly. “Definitely. I’m very high-maintenance on stage. Darren’s lucky he’s so talented.” Chris was seized with panic at mentioning Darren’s name so off-handedly, but then he remembered that Lea was on his side so he relaxed again. “We’d make history. We’d transform The Wizard of Oz forever!” He chuckled and motioned to a small table for two, taking a seat and glancing at Lea over the top of his cup. “Shut up! You’re kidding!” He set his cup down and leaned forward. “I had no idea! Tell me all about it, please.

Lea sighed. It wasn’t fair that Chris had to go through all of this. She just wanted to slap everyone and make them get along. Call their mothers, even. But that wouldn’t be right. They were all adults, who needed to learn how to deal with this on their own. Lea ushered Chris back into Starbucks, and ordered herself, and Chris the same thing he’d just thrown out. “This will all work out, hun. I just know it. I can’t have you giving up on the big apple before we’re in a show together.” She smiled widely, and pulled him into a hug just as their order came up.

Chris stood beside Lea in line, keeping one of his hands in hers; surprisingly enough, he found a subtle kind of comfort from the simple gesture. He chuckled softly and gave a little nod, feeling a little lighter, knowing he had Lea on his side. He knew that he had been stupid and done stupid things, but she seemed to get that he didn’t have malicious intent, and that this was killing him just as much as it was killing everyone else. He hugged her back tightly before grabbing his coffee and returning to the spice table. “I was thinking Wicked,” he mused, sprinkling cinnamon into his latte. “I think I’d make a wicked Guylinda.” He winked at her and took a sip of his coffee.

Lea shook her head. “You didn’t fuck up. You entered an impossible situation. You’re not doing anything wrong. Unless you think that being happy with Darren is wrong? It’s not your fault. If anything it’s Darren’s fault for how things ended with Naya.” It really did break her heart to see her young friend doubt himself so. “I love you Chris Colfer, and I want you to be happy here. Fresno can suck it. Because New York City has stolen their best and brightest. And they can’t have you back, hun.” Lea crossed her arms. She was sure that she wasn’t supposed to hear that last bit. But Lea Michele heard everything. It was a curse of being in music. “Now stop wallowing, and let me replace that coffee you threw out for no good reason.”

“Everyone makes feeling happy with Darren feel wrong.” The words hurt, but they were true. Chris loved Darren, loved being with him, and he never smiled more than when he and Darren were alone together, but with all of this going on, it was hard to imagine that this was wrong. Because love was love. And they hadn’t gone about it conventionally, and yes, they were wrong, but they had been trying to apologize, but no one was giving them a chance. Until Lea. Chris suddenly grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her in for a hug, holding onto her tightly. “Okay,” he agreed weakly, slipping his hand into hers and letting her lead him into Starbucks once again.
